Peter Dame, City Manager for the City of Grosse Pointe, was the guest speaker at the Wednesday, July 26, evening meeting of Rotary of Grosse Pointe at The War Memorial. He was welcomed by President John Maliszewski.
Dame reported that the city will be having a special election on Aug. 8 to raise funds for three projects:
  1. moving the fire and police to what is now Alger Deli & Liquor on Mack Avenue. This will include the store, side lot and the house behind it.
  2. Moving the public works department to a structure behind EZ Storage on Mack Ave.
  3. Renovating the courthouse and tearing down the public works building to create more parking.
The buildings on Maumee where the departments are all currently located are too small and obsolete.  Garbage trucks can’t be parked inside at night and a new fire truck can’t be purchased because it won’t fit in the garage.  There is little room for storage so if dirt or asphalt are need, requests need to be made to the other Grosse Pointes for supplies.
Pete believes that having a presence on Mack is great for all of the Grosse Pointes.  He also believes that putting money into old, inadequate buildings would not be the best interests of the City.
