On Friday June 17, 2011 our club was honored with the “Greater Detroit Community Volunteers of the Year” award by Matrix Human Services of Detroit.  Matrix Human Services was founded in 1906 by the League of Catholic Women.  Matrix Human Services serves their community through twenty-three service locations with a staff of five hundred employees and countless volunteers.

 

 

 

Also recognized at the 106th annual meeting at the Atheneum Hotel were other civic leaders, Blue Care Network, DTE Energy and United Way.

 

Following talks by Congressman Hanson H. Clarke representing the 13th Congressional District and Vivian Rogers Pickard President of the General Motors Foundation, President and CEO Dr. Marcella Wilson presented the Matrix annual awards.

 

As Matrix President and CEO Dr. Marcella Wilson said in honoring these organizations “Over the past five years, I have worked with amazing board members, staff, volunteers and corporate supporters like Blue Care Network, DTE Energy, Great Lakes Health and The Grosse Pointe Rotary Club whose 3 Million Pound Challenge to the community for food, clothing and books filled pantry shelves and supported thousands of clients”. 

 

Among the honored guests Bill Scott President Elect, Bob Bashara Past President, Paul Rentenbach Treasurer and Mike Carmody Chairman of the 3 Million Pound Challenge, accepted the award on behalf of President Mark Wilson and the Members from the Rotary Club of Grosse Pointe, Michigan.
