Marie Horak & Adrien Carlier
Surviving WWII & working in the Belgium Underground
Marie is Nina's grandmother and gives inspirational talks to students about surviving during one of Europe's most difficult times (WWII).  Marie grew up in Birkenhordt in the Southwest of Germany about 50 km from the French border.

Adrien has been married to Jackie's mom for more than 3 years.  At 15, he was taken by the Gestapo to be used as slave labor in a German factory.  He learned the German language there and with the help of the Red Cross was released prior to his 18th birthday.  Because Adrien was fluent in German, he was a big help to the Belgium underground when he returned home to Wakken (formerly Wacken) in West Flanders, Belgium.
