Principal Hussain Ali, from Poupard  Elementary School spoke to us about the Leader in Me program.  Poupard is in its third year of the Leader in Me program which recognizes that students need a broad based skillset that includes core academic subjects and skills involving the ability to communicate, problem solving, goal setting, and self-management. The belief is that every student can be a leader.
The program is known for its seven habits. “Be proactive,” “Begin with the end in mind” and “Put first things first” foster independence. “Think win-win,” “Seek first to understand, then to be understood” and “Synergize” promote interdependence. Finally, “Sharpen the saw” fine tunes the process to repeat. An eighth habit has recently been added - “Find your voice.” Principal Ali has noticed benefits from the program which has included a decrease in referrals and suspensions.
