On Wednesday July 24, we were joined by Casey Kempton, the founder of Milk & Honey. Milk & Honey focuses on helping underprivileged women in Jos, Nigeria build skills they can use to start their own home businesses.

On Wednesday July 24, we were joined by the founder of Milk & Honey, Casey Kempton. Casey knew graduating from Grosse Pointe North in 2012 that college was not the path she wanted to take, but to immediately embark in her passion of baking and helping others.
After taking a few years working at local bakeries in the Detroit Area, Casey joined non profits. These non profits overseas in China and Macedonia both aimed to help underprivileged people with limited resources. After her time with these non profits, she knew she wanted to start her own. After living in Jos, Nigeria for 6 years, Casey opened Milk & Honey in 2023.
Milk & Honey offers 6-9 month classes for women in Jos. Nigeria that is facing poverty. These classes offered 2-6 hours a day each start with a daily prayer. In Nigeria it is common for widowed women to be young, in their 20s or 30s due to terrorism and leaving these women with no life insurance or any rights to their children or husband’s assets. Milk & Honey teaches these women recipes using local ingredients to have the hope of one day having a home bakery business to serve the 2 million people of Jos, Nigeria. There is a 40% unemployment rate in Milk & Honey’s local area in Jos, which is why Casey wants to support local business by using their products for recipes, baking equipment and more. Milk & Honey does not stop at culinary classes, they also offer women support by helping put their children through school, help with clean water, and food.
Casey is hoping to expand her business with the help of donations by, one day, to build a daycare center on site. A daycare would be incredibly helpful for the women in Jos, Nigeria.
