Events

Several times a week The Second Mile Center of Detroit delivers food, clothing, and goods to the community.  Our group collects non-perishable food and other goods to help this cause.  A list of needs will be provided before the event.  

Help support our sister club at this fun event that raises significant funds for their foundation.  Exact hours as well as where to meet will be availabe 4 weeks before the event.

During our work day, we will be removing blight from the front yards of vacant properties (clearing debris and cutting down overgrown grass, weeds and brush) as well as renovating and beautifying the newly opened Anchor Detroit Community Center.

All tools are provided, and volunteers will receive a t-shirt to wear on their volunteer day. Volunteers should bring their own work gloves and protective eyewear/sunglasses as well as wear pants and closed-toed shoes. All volunteers must be at least 14-years-old, and volunteers under 18-years-old must be accompanied by adults.

Kim Spirou has a passion for making an impact that matters. She has been involved in Rotary for over 30 years and is currently a member of the recently chartered Rotary Club of Tecumseh Lakeshore. Kim has participated in and led numerous international Rotary team trips in central America and Ghana where she has initiated projects in all of Rotary’s seven areas of focus.

Kim has served as an assistant governor, as a district trainer and she has served as club president three times. An ardent supporter of The Rotary Foundation Kim is a Paul Harris Fellow, Benefactor, Bequest Society member and a Major Donor.

Public Library, there will be a key note speaker and an opportunity to meet and learn about local clubs and non-profits. We hope to recruit some new members, interact with our local orgnaizations and find new ways to stay involved in our commuity. Registration info to follow. See Jessica Keyser if you have questions.

If you enjoy being outside and want to help our community look its best, join us for some light gardening/weeding and litter cleanup at the Moross Greenway.  Bring gardening gloves and your favorite weeding device.  Just stay as long as you can.  We hope to see you there!

Dr. Bishop, our new GPPSS Superintendent, will give a state of the district presentation. He will discuss our new Strategic Plan, our balanced budget, recent test scores, and listening sessions he is hoting on topics of interest. He will also answer questions about our district and public education in general.

Rotary is all about building bridges at home and abroad, so we were very interested to learn about the latest span under construction between the US and Canada. We welcome the Detroit-Windsor Bridge Authority for a fascinating look at the Gordie Howe International Bridge. This event was rescheduled at the speaker's request.

Pro-Literacy Detroit is a non-profit organization that aims to solve adult illiteracy. We help adults 16 and over become independent readers, writers, and speakers of English by matching each student with a volunteer tutor.

Maggie's Wigs 4 Kids is a non-profit organization providing kids 3-18 new hair, new hope, and a chance to be themselves. See how you can help.

North Star Reach offers children with serious health challenges a piece of childhood they might not otherwise experience—campfires and s’mores with new friends, paddling a canoe across the lake, catching fireflies at dusk, or shooting a bow and arrow for the first time. Come learn more about their mission to provide life-changing, barrier-free camp experiences—always free of charge—for children with serious health challenges and their families. 

Watch kids faces light up and help our community kick off the holidays by being a volunteer marshal at the Grosse Pointe Santa Clause Parade.  Fun for all and a great way to celebrate the season!

We all remember how excited we were as children to open our favorite present.  But some children don't have that chance unless we make it happen.  Please consider donating to brighten a child's holidays and give more meaning to Christmas this year.

Alternatives for Girls is a Detroit-based nonprofit empowering homeless and at-risk young women.The organization provides safe shelter, crisis support, workforce development, and after-school mentoring for girls aged 7–21.

Help put on this special holiday party for children with health issues.  It will take place in the afternoon.  Volunteers will help greet and other activities.  More details and times to come.

Silvia's presentation draws from her 20-year background in biological sciences, along with her work in the science-backed, holistic healing space. The focus is on helping people better understand emerging, non-invasive approaches to supporting the body at a cellular level -- particularly as it relates to healing, aging, and overall vitality. She will be introduced by Robbin Moyer from the Grosse Ile Rotary Club.
